Meercats have been in Aberdeen since 1799

Meercats were introduced to Aberdeen in 1799 by architect Archibald Simpson. They were used as surveyors and cheap labour during the construction of Aberdeen's many iconic buildings.
They lived in squalor at the end of King Street in a place called the Meercat Cross. A few still inhabit the city to this day, but are considered to be a pest, especially when they try to sell you cheap car insurance.
